PERSONALITY: From the start, Zenitsu has always been the type of guy who one should never judge by their first appearances.

On the surface, he looks to be no more than a whiny crybaby who runs away from danger and fears for his life. Put simply? Zenitsu is a coward. He doesn’t want to die and goes out of his way to avoid fights typically if he can avoid it. Underneath this exterior of a young man who cries - and yells - a lot, is someone who’s very kind and loyal to his friends, to the point where he will put his life on the line if it comes down to it. He’s been dealt hardships, through having no parents, being put into debt and then raised as a swordsman going into a scary career where any day he could die.

So while he may be a coward who wants to avoid fighting, there are still things he fights for. He wants to be strong and follow through with what people expect of him and it's been shown on numerous occasions that he highly respects the people he calls comrades. Such as Tanjiro and Inosuke - for as much as the guy annoys him sometimes - as he knows they are strong and capable fighters. He once even let himself get the crap beaten out of him to protect the very box Tanjiro's sister was in, when Inosuke went to attack it, even if he could hear there was a demon inside and did it simply because Tanjiro had a kind sound to him that made him want to cry and that he'd expressed this box meant more than his own life. Zenitsu is very passionate and kind in this sense, but yet never does he tend to hold back on his words and comes off pretty blunt most of the time.

He's loud, gets angry easily but has a very strong sense of morality that becomes slightly skewed when it comes to girls. Starting off in the series as trying desperately to get a girl to marry him and continues throughout the series to hit on girls who he considers to be cute. Heck, they get in the way of reasoning and have been known on more than one occasion to annoy several girls.

These womanizing tendencies overshadow his otherwise, almost quiet side, and gets bad enough that if he suspects either Tanjiro or Inosuke to be flirting with cute girls? Up goes the volume and out comes the loud, hysterical rants and lashing out due to sheer frustration. It doesn't make him a bad person, thankfully, as he just wants to not be alone if he gets killed. The girl who he does seriously pursue however, is Nezuko, vowing to protect her and actually having done so several times throughout the series as it progresses. He's even been shown to speak to her when Tanjiro's not around, keeping her company and even telling her how good and cool her brother is.

Since he doesn't have parents and no real blood family, Zenitsu has come to be close to several people who now mean the world to him. His former teacher, Jigoro Kuwajima was someone he even came to call 'Gramps' and cared for him a lot as the man never once gave up on him despite his numerous attempts to run away from his responsibilities. and the same went for his former senior disciple, Kaigaku who he considered like a brother and even respected him, even if they hated each other. He resented Kaigaku even more when discovering that he had willingly become a demon and caused their teacher, to commit Seppuku and did everything he could to avenge him. As stated before, he's come to be quite close with Tanjiro, Nezuko and even Inosuke who arguably have become something of family to him. He will fight to protect them where he can, even if it means nearly rendering himself useless due to overexertion and injuries.

Zenitsu is prone to many, MANY a moment where he could freak out at any time, screaming at people, calling them some kind of odd nickname or the like but not out of malice. If he doesn't like doing something? He's VERY vocal about it, whether it's going into a fight, being afraid to do something or even just taking medicine because it tastes awful. Sometimes he even seems spiteful and does things to go against what people think he can do, trying desperately to prove them wrong and it comes down all the way to how he fights and has proven himself capable over and over again. He even came up with a new form of Thunder Breathing with the intent to fight alongside Kaigaku, but instead used it to kill him. That didn't stop Zenitsu from feeling incredibly guilty afterward, believing that he should have done more and that he wished he could have been a better disciple for his Gramps who meant so much to him.

Overall, he might be loud, somewhat cowardly, womanizing and a crybaby, but underneath? Zenitsu is a strong, kind-hearted and incredibly loyal young man who just wants to have a simple, peaceful life with a cute girl. He's a good friend and comes through in a pinch when people need him to be, though sometimes it takes a little bit before it happens, and is someone slowly working on his low self-esteem to be a better person as the series overall progresses.
